Shin Gojira / Godzilla Resurgence (2016, Hideaki Anno & Shinji Higuchi)

With Wednesday's release of the trailer to Godzilla: Resurgence, American fans of the King of Monsters began asking themselves that age-old question: "When will it arrive here?" Well, today we've got your answer, and it's one you will probably not like.

On Thursday, Godzilla fans scoured online to find out if any company would be marketing the film here in the US. Then they found one in New World Cinemas (wait a second... That company suspiciously sounds like New World, the company that distributed Godzilla 1985 that was known in the US as Return of Godzilla it's actual title) will be handling the rights to the movie. Yes, if you don't trust them with that, here's their official listing for the movie. Oh and apparently if this is actually their Twitter account they love Donald Drumpf. ..... If I didn't know better I'd say this was a satirical made-up company and any minute now some person will post somewhere this was one elaborate prank to lure sites into thinking they are legit then suddenly, "HA! FOOLED YOU!". *looks again at their credentials* Huh they actually exist. Huh this is sort of depressing when you think of the larger picture of who passed....

Warner Bros (who technically share the rights to distribute the 2014 with Legendary Pictures) I can almost see passing because they'd think audiences would confuse it with their Godzilla, I'm a bit surprised Sony hasn't leapt at this, given they own the Millennium/all but two of the Heisei Eras of Godzilla films. Even after the disaster of Godzilla (1998) they've been the torch holders for the modern Godzilla films. So if not them can anyone get a hotline to Shout! Factory or Kraken? Please? Anyone?

So okay maybe it'll get a limited theatrical release right? I mean Godzilla (2014) did big dollars, people would want to see the Toho version right? That's where the bad news then evolves into worst news: no theatrical release for the movie. Not even limited so far. Which is understandable given the last time a Toho-made Godzilla movie was released in the US in theaters aka Godzilla 2000, it bombed. But not even a limited release via a Fathom Event? If Kirk Cameron can get massive theater releases to show his crappy Jesus movie, how the hell can Toho not get our true lord and savior Godzilla in one? (Sérieux what the fuck TABARNAK !!!)

So far that's an apparent nope.

Now the even worst news. USA fans may have to wait until sometime in 2017 to see it. Which is kind of strange given, well, by that time fans who will be eager enough will probably just buy a region Blu-Ray from Japan, or worse, pirate it.  

Oh speaking of digital and Blu-Ray, there's apparently no release for that, only DVD. So um.. any possible good news for American fans here? Can someone throw us American fans a bone here?
